Announcement
Dear Parents,
This is a brief message to let you know how well your children are doing, what's new, and about the staff and what they expect.
Based on a recent 2009 Stanford University (CREDO) national study, elementary and middle school charter students show higher learning gains than their traditional public school peers. Also, students in new charter schools tend to have significantly smaller learning gains as compared to their traditional public school peers, and as compared to those attending established charter schools. Nationally, students in established (second, third or more years) charter schools have larger learning gains than those of their traditional public school counterparts.
Using data from the Florida DOE comparing student learning gains for charter schools and traditional public schools, Florida charter school students matched or exceeded gains made in traditional public schools. Historically, the Bradenton Charter School's children do well, and in 2006 the school was listed as one of Florida's top 50 combination schools (elementary and middle). At the school level, student projects show that they not only understand lessons, but are able to apply their knowledge.
At Bradenton Charter School, we have a small, individualized setting with highly qualified, dedicated professionals who have taught in private and/or public school settings. Our staff turnover is among the lowest in the district, and in addition to our strong academic program, we have the financial commitment and administrative know-how to guarantee the success of our school. We have the support of experienced accountants and auditors, and our management team has over 39 years of school administrative experience.
With a stable administration, the school benefits from a unified view of what it is achieving. “Our Expanding World” is an initiative to have students explore the world’s people, places, environment, geography, arts, foods, and history. The objectives are to promote reading, writing, math, science, and social studies in a “world” context that offer students opportunities to involve themselves in projects that interest them. “Readers for Life” is another initiative that uses “leveled” literature to involve and inspire students to read. Topics range from serious and heartfelt to fun and even ridiculous.
The school is excited about student achievement and continues to provide students with high interest work designed to "take them to the next level." We not only challenge students with what they need in regards to their traditional studies through an integrated curriculum, but also with experiences and opportunities to develop and produce work that reflect their backgrounds and interests.
We are honored to not only be recognized as one of Florida's top combination schools, but to also have the trust of you, our parents. Thank you for trusting us with the education of your children. It is a relationship we do not take for granted.
Sincerely,
Richard Donnelly
Principal
